Creating a Cosy, Extended Living Space with Modern Touches

With an already lovely home in Holsworthy, North Devon, our customers Mr and Mrs G asked us to help make the most of the space they had available. Through special details and a modern touch, they now have a conservatory to be proud of.

A Cosy, Extended Living Space with Modern Touches

The Brief

Our customers had two main requirements with the project. First to maintain ease of access to the rear garden through an existing side entrance/exit, and second to make the most of the space they had available. The home is semi-detached, so we needed to take the neighbouring properties into consideration and work within the boundaries of the spacious garden.

What We Did

Through getting a thorough understanding of our client’s needs, we decided that installing bi-fold doors at the rear of the conservatory to open out onto the garden would give the biggest sense of space and openness to the living area.

With uninterrupted rural views beyond the back garden, Mr and Mrs G are in a lucky position where privacy isn’t an issue, so the bi-fold doors can be left open to enjoy good weather. The paved area outside the conservatory extends the useable space for seating. With the doors fully folded open, the sense of space is maximised and the outdoors flows seamlessly inside.

The Conservatory

Mr and Mrs G chose a modern style conservatory to complement the bi-fold doors, with a low sill on one side to maximise light inside the room and extend the feeling of openness with the garden.

On the other side, the wall was blocked to full height to create a useable wall for the interior fixings, and a place to hang artwork. It also blocks out the view of the rear of the neighbouring property to create a cosy, private feel.

The fully glazed roof allows maximum light into the space, without compromising on privacy.

Essential Side Access

A key aspect of the brief was to provide easy access to the back garden and side access to the property, so we installed a glazed door that leads directly onto the paved pathway at the detached side of the property.

The Extra Detail

To give this conservatory a special touch, we installed a blue Murano glass insert in the top lights along the side windows, which casts a beautiful colour and pattern. A unique finishing touch like this sets our customer’s conservatory apart from others and creates a bespoke and interesting detail.

We love creating special and unique spaces for our clients. With the modern function of bi-fold doors and quality construction, this conservatory will be a treasured space for years to come.
